Dear Editor, Thank you for including a report in the Post (January 27) on the memorial service which was held at SIFA Fireside to remember our service users who had died in 2010.
We wanted to clarify that the deaths were due to a range of factors, including health conditions and drug or alcohol misuse, as well as fire and violence, rather than being the direct result of people sleeping rough during the particularly cold weather spells.
SIFA Fireside works closely with Birmingham City Council’s Housing Dept, Midland Heart and other partners to ensure that there is a safety net to get people off the streets and into settled accommodation so that, once there, we can tackle the after-effects of homelessness on people’s health and lifestyles.
