A former colliery is to be the site of the first wind farm in the West Midlands.
Developers want to put up six wind turbines at Bleak House, near Cannock Chase in Staffordshire. Harworth Power, which owns the former open-cast mine, said the 260ft turbines would generate enough electricity to power up 12,000 homes.
The company is consulting environmental groups about the plans. A formal planning application is expected to be lodged soon.
Details emerged as Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks confirmed plans to press ahead with 2,000 more wind turbines, in the hope of meeting its target of supplying ten per cent of the UK's energy needs from renewable sources by 2010.
