A charity box collecting money for a seriously ill baby girl has been stolen from a pub in Birmingham.

The collection tin to raise money for Keira Fletcher was taken during a burglary at the Asbury Tavern on Newton Road, Great Barr, between April 10 and 11.

The offenders are believed to have forced open the fire escape of the pub at around 3.40am and stolen alcohol from the bar as well as the charity box.

Sergeant Kym Jones, from Newton neighbourhood police team, said: "The charity box was there to collect money to help a six-month-old girl who is suffering from a life-limiting illness.

"The charity collection box had been placed in the pub by the parents of the youngster, Keira Fletcher, as they are trying to raise £26,000 for stem cell treatment in Germany.

"The box would have been clearly labelled and the offenders would surely have seen this, but chose to take it anyway, which is very upsetting."

The offenders are described as three young men, aged in their mid to late teens, all wearing hooded tops.

Sgt Jones added: "The offenders are believed to have gone into the pub at around 3.40am. With this in mind, and the fact that they did not appear to have a vehicle, we believe that the offenders may be local to the area and pub."

Anyone with information to help the police investigation is urged to contact Newton neighbourhood team on 0345 113 5000 Ext 7911 6370 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
