A Solihull rugby club paid tribute to a devoted father-oftwo who collapsed and died during a match at the weekend.
Malcolm Weller, a scrum half and team captain at Old Edwardians Rugby Club, in Shirley, had been on the pitch for just 20 minutes when, without any contact, he fell to the ground.
The 40-year-old was momentarily revived by two team-mates before the County Air Ambulance landed at the club's ground in Streetsbrook Road after Saturday's match against Yardley and District Rugby Club was abandoned.
It is believed none of his family were at the game when he collapsed after suffering a suspected heart attack.
Mr Weller was taken to nearby Heartlands Hospital where he later died.
Last night one of his colleagues, who asked not to be named, said: "He was an exemplary player, he always put everything into whatever he was doing on and off the pitch.
"You would always want him on your team, he just wouldn't stop, he'd give it 110 per cent in every game.
"Everybody's devastated at his death; it's the biggest shock you could ever imagine. Our thoughts are with his family."
