Dear Editor, Why are we surprised to miss out on City Region status?

I think the people in charge of securing the City Region status for Birmingham are a waste of space.

Why would the Government allow non-entities like our seven council leaders any more responsibility for transport, education, development, fundraising etc when they can’t even agree on a name for the City Region. Especially after £10,000 was spent on deciding that ‘Greater Birmingham’ was best but they went with ‘Birmingham, Coventry & Black Country City Region’!

In my opinion the Government is right to deny this to Birmingham. Forward with GREATER Manchester and GREATER Leeds! (See how easy that was to say?)

I hope they all live to regret this fiasco! We the residents will have to.

I think the Birmingham papers have accepted this lying down and don’t seem to be making much fuss over the loss of City Region status ( a couple of small articles). Sadly this attitude appears to be prevalent through out this city and it’s only a matter of time before we really do become the third or even forth city of the UK.
