Birmingham's planning boss has promised new schemes that "will take your breath away".

The pledge from Clive Dutton came as he highlighted a new report which he said was a perfect riposte to this week's Cushman & Wakefield UK Cities Monitor in which Manchester ousted Birmingham as best city after London to locate a business.

In its annual Birmingham Market Activity document, property consultancy Knight Frank warned that city centre living needed a new focus, but highlighted the strength of the commercial property and office market - C&W had claimed the highest office rents outside of London were holding Birmingham back.

Mr Dutton, director of planning and regeneration at Birmingham City Council, said: "This is the perfect riposte. The facts speak for themselves.

"The stream of unprecedented projects in the city totals £14 billion and rising - watch this space for announcements that will take your breath away both here and abroad."
