The RSPCA is appealing for information after a tank containing two exotic snakes was found dumped in a rubbish bin in Coventry.
The animal charity said children discovered the reptiles, one of which was dead, outside the Cheylesmore pub in Daventry Road, Stivichall.
RSPCA Inspector Kate Garton yesterday confirmed the children had alerted the landlord, who took the snakes inside and called the RSPCA.
They were collected by an animal collection officer and taken to Vale Wildlife Centre near Evesham.
The snakes are pythons or boas and are about 15in long.
There were no obvious injuries to the dead snake and it is unclear if it was dead or alive when dumped.
Inspector Garton said: "Unfortunately we do not know who the children were that found these snakes and their information could prove so important to this inquiry."
