Central Ladies enjoyed a final, 5-1, win against Four Oaks firsts in Division One of the Birmingham League but finished runners-up to Hotshots firsts, writes David Wilson.

Linzi Atkinson and Jayne Page remained undefeated but the Wednesbury-based side finished eight games behind the winners.

The one rubber gained by Oaks ended Broadway's hopes of retaining top-flight status next season and their consolation is the play-off match against KRS next Sunday.

Solihull and Shirley second mixed side escaped the play-offs after thrashing Arden 8-1 and condemning them to Division Three next season.

John Hudson and Judy Warrington, and Andy Pattie with Katie Johnson, remained unbeaten while Nigel Field, with Angela Attwood, won two further games.

Hotshots first mixed side warmed up for their play-off match on Friday with Four Oaks' firsts with a 9-0 whitewash over Oak's seconds. Doug Woodhouse and Fiona McNaughton, Martin Francis with Reggie Baker, and Imran Basher with Tracy Baker ensured a top display before the final match.

The mixed play-off challenge matches take place at Handsworth School on Friday at

7.15pm. The men's matches take place at Yardley School (9.15am) and the ladies matches start at 10.15am on Sunday and conclude the season.
