Birmingham City could be set for two reunions with Robbie Savage after being paired with Blackburn in the third round of the Carling Cup.

Steve Bruce's men must travel to Ewood Park for a game expected to take place on September 24, 11 days before Blues must go back there for a Premier League game.

It also throws up a chance for Bruce to pit his wits against David Dunn, who returned to Ewood for #2.2 million in January, and former Blues assistant manager Mark Bowen. But it is Savage's presence that will add most spice to the occasion.

West Bromwich Albion have been paired at home with Cardiff City while Aston Villa must wait until September 18 to find their opponents after being paired at home to Nottingham Forest or Leicester City. The first Forest-Leicester meeting last Tuesday was abandoned at half-time after Foxes full-back Clive Clarke suffered a heart attack.

Coventry City have pulled out a plum reward for their comfortable victories over Notts County and Carlisle United by being paired with Manchester United.
