A 20-year-old woman has been charged with murder following the death of an elderly widow after a fire at a care home.

Irene Watling, aged 83, died in hospital shortly after suffering serious burns to her legs in a blaze which broke out on the evening of July 9.

Mrs Watling, a resident at the Victoria Mews home in Stoke, Coventry, suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

West Midlands Police said a 20-year-old woman from the Radford area of the city had been charged with murder, attempted wounding and arson with intent to endanger life. She will appear before city magistrates today.

Two members of staff at the home, a 24-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were previously released on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of murder.
