England will include four players from high-fliers Cannock in the men's hockey squad for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Barry Middleton, Scott Cordon, Martin Jones and goalkeeper James Fair were all selected as part of an exciting, if inexperienced, new-look team.

The 16-man squad contains only one player with Commonwealth experience, with captain Brett Garrard having played in Manchester 2002 and in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

Coach Jason Lee said: "With the exception of Brett, they are all fresh faces."

However, Lee dismisses claims this will hamper their medal ambitions.

"We are going out to win every game," he said, although he acknowledges the importance of a good start to the campaign.

"The first match (against New Zealand) will be crucial in deciding whether we can make the semi-finals."

England's group contains Olympic gold medallists and reigning Commonwealth champions Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Scotland.
