Voters in East Handsworth and Lozells will go to the polls in June following the resignation of Labour city councillor, Kim Brom.

The by-election will be on June 4, the same day as the European Parliament election.

It is believed the branch Labour Party will select their candidate for the safe inner city seat this weekend.

Coun Brom was first elected in 2004 and her term was due to finish in May next year. She said: “After much careful deliberation and consideration, I have resigned from my seat due to changes in my family and work circumstances. Furthermore, I am very grateful for the working relationships and cooperation of other councillors, council officers, and colleagues in partner agencies, which have enabled me to carry out my duties as a councillor professionally and efficiently.”
