Hednesford Town have decided caretaker-manager Steve Anthrobus is the man to lead their relegation fight for the rest of the season.

Former player Anthrobus, who had been ex-player-boss Chris Brindley's assistant before Brindley was dismissed last month, has been in charge since Brindley's exit.

Though the Pitmen have only one win under Anthrobus - in the FA Trophy - in ten matches, the club feel his hard work has proved he deserves the opportunity on a permanent basis.

Anthrobus has been told the situation will be reviewed at the end of the Nationwide North campaign.

"We have been impressed with the quality of applicants for the job but feel that 'Buster' has earned the right to prove just what he can do," said the club in a statement last night.

The Pitmen face a crucial clash away to fellow relegation battlers Alfreton Town tomorrow. The sides occupy the bottom two spots in the league.
