West Midlands towns planning to bid to become Portas Pilots can take part in a free half-day workshop in Solihull.

The Government is looking to fund 12 pilots that demonstrate the best fit with the selection criteria, each receiving a share of £1million.

The workshop on March 8 is organised by the Association of Town Centre Management for the Department of Communities and Local Government.

It aims to provide insights into the background of the Portas Review, the Government’s thinking, making a good application and tips on public relations and social media, as well as ideas for maintaining momentum.

Martin Blackwell, chief executive officer of the ATCM, said: “This is a great opportunity not just to make sure that the best possible applications are submitted, but to use the occasion to meet others who are passionate about their high street and learn from each other.”

The application deadline to become a Portas Pilot is March 30. For register for the workshop visit www.atcm.org
