Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson has promised he will do "everything humanly possible" to make sure the Brewers' most loyal fans can attend the club's glamorous FA Cup tie with Manchester United at the Pirelli Stadium.

The Football Association yesterday confirmed that the Nationwide Conference club's third-round clash with United would be staged at Albion's 6,000-capacity new stadium.

In the aftermath of the Brewers' 4-1 second-round victory over visiting Burscough on Tuesday night, there had been suggestions the tie might be moved 15 miles north to Derby's Pride Park.

But after United's friendly at Albion passed off smoothly last month, police and safety advisors confirmed the tie should go ahead at the Pirelli Stadium.

However with the Rams' own FA Cup clash with Burnley coinciding with Stoke City's tie with Tamworth at the Britannia Stadium, Burton's match is to be put back from Saturday, January 7 until the following day.

Robinson explained: "The FA have confirmed the game will be shown live on television on the Sunday, probably on Sky Sports. The kick-off time has still to be confirmed but Sky's usual Sunday slot is 4pm.

"The FA wanted to play the tie at the Pirelli Stadium and, in informal discussions, the police indicated they were happy with that but we will do everything humanly possible to make sure our 1,500 to 2,000 hardcore of supporters get to see the game at the ground rather than on the TV."

Robinson said that had Albion still been playing at their former Eton Park ground, which had a 3,500 capacity, the tie would certainly have been switched.

"Having just built a stadium costing almost £7million, we should be capable of staging a third- round FA Cup tie against Premiership opposition," he said.
