Birmingham's Bullring is celebrating after beating the January sales blues.

Despite gloomy predictions for the high street, the centre said sales for the period January 6 to 12 were 7.8 per cent up on 2007.

The news coincides with the launch of a Bullring TV channel to help boost sales further in 2008.

Mixed fashion, jewellery and toys and games categories were the strongest performers during the sale, Bullring said. Footfall was also up by 1.3 per cent on last year. Car park numbers were up three per cent.

Louise Hamer-Brown, marketing controller of Bullring, said: "We have implemented a number of new initiatives for the New Year, one of which is the launch of our own TV channel, Bullring TV, to continue to increase footfall and further generate sales. It's the perfect platform for our brand."

The interactive TV channel at www.browsebullring.co.uk/tv allows visitors the chance to be featured on screen, as well as watch its reality TV-style programme.

The first episode, hosted by MTV presenter Carole Machin, features Bullring visitors showcasing their Christmas shopping bargains.
