Birmingham's first "gastro bar" has been saved from closure by a Black Country businessman.

Mackenzies Bar and Dining Room, opposite the Victoria Law Courts in Corporation Street, went into administration after being hit by higher than expected start-up costs and a dip in trade.

But now Lord Kultar Dale, a Wolverhampton-based entrepreneur, has agreed a deal with Manchester-based administrators Kay Johnson Gee.

Lord Dale, who is managing director of West Midlands Homes Limited, has installed his son, Suky Dale, to oversee the day-to-day running of the business.

"The food and atmosphere at Mackenzies has always been first class and weekdays are always very busy with clientele from the legal profession showing great loyalty," he said.

"We now intend to build on this by planning more events during the week, on Friday nights and over the weekend."
