While most people were tucking into Christmas Day lunch, a Birmingham cinema was keeping its pledge of opening 365 days-a-year.
About a dozen customers had gathered outside the AMC complex at the Broadway Plaza at Five Ways, Edgbaston, when it opened its doors at 12.30pm yesterday.
It is the third year the 12-screen cinema has opened on Christmas Day - the first year there were no customers and last year there were 51.
The Christmas Dayopening is part of the chain's global policy, said operations manager Matthew Pouncett.
"All AMC cinemas globally are open today. That's 300 sites across the world including ourselves and Manchester.
"We're showing all the big releases - King Kong, Narnia , etc - and I'm
hoping to have doubled last year's customer numbers."
Four members of staff - on triple pay - volunteered to be on duty for the six-hour festive shift, along with Mr Pouncett.
"Many of those who have turned up are from the Asian communities who don't celebrate Christmas but last year there were quite a few customers who came in after their Christmas dinner," he said.
