Birmingham City have reopened transfer talks with Jason Euell as Steve Bruce's transfer dealings move into over-drive as the window nears its completion.

Euell, who has fallen out with Charlton boss Alan Curbishley, looked set to sign for Birmingham last week, but Bruce put the move on ice stating that he needed to assess all options.

Birmingham's manager only has a limited transfer budget and would be unwilling to pay the original fee of £1.5 million quoted by the Addicks.

However, Euell's representatives opened fresh dialogue with Birmingham yesterday and it looks as though the protracted transfer may yet go ahead.

Euell can operate in an attacking midfield role and that would appeal to Bruce who still has his eye on Rangers' Peter Lovenkrands.

However, with Jiri Jarosik only on loan until the end of the campaign then Bruce will be aware of the need to strengthen his goalscoring options from midfield.

One player who won't be joining the club is Cameroon defender Lucien Mettomo who has returned to Germany after just one day's training.

Bruce has decided against offering the 28-year-old former Manchester City centre-back a deal.
