Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has confirmed his interest in £ 5millionrated Juventus midfielder Stephen Appiah.

Bruce admitted he has been monitoring 24-yearold Appiah for several months as he set his sights on bringing in up to four quality players.

The Ghana international has failed to command a regular place with the Italian giants and is also understood to be attracting Newcastle, Everton, Portsmouth, Fiorentina and Bologna.

Former Parma star Appiah, who has three years left of his current contract, is understood to be keen to have a spell in England.

Bruce said: "I'm going to be linked with 25 players this summer! There are a few we are looking at. Appiah is on the list.

"We've been scouring the market for months and months but, yes, he's one we are monitoring and we'll see what the situation is with him."

Appiah has found his path blocked at Juve by Mauro Camoranesi and Emerson, although he did score his first Serie A goal of the season in last weekend's 5-2 victory over Lecce.

Bruce admitted: "If we can add two to four players this summer then we'll be stronger again. I am looking at quality rather than quantity. We've got the nucleus of a decent squad but adding quality costs you money."
