Warwickshire's Dougie Brown helped Scotland to their second win in two games in the ICC Trophy in Ireland.

Brown actually proved a little expensive with the ball, conceding 48 runs from his quota of eight overs. But he did take the key wicket of the experienced Ian Billcliff as Scotland defeated Canada by seven wickets.

The Scottish team, coached by former Warwickshire opener Andy Moles, were grateful to Craig Smith, who hit an unbeaten 86, and Fraser Watts, 81 not out, for leading their reply.

Scotland take on Papua New Guinea today and Namibia tomorrow, but then have a day off before the game against Holland on Thursday.

It is not impossible, giving Warwickshire's growing injury list, that Brown will be asked to return to Edgbaston on Wednesday to bolster the county's resources in what could be a key Twenty20 Cup match against Northamptonshire.

For that likelihood to be considered, however, Warwickshire will have to keep their semi- final hopes alive by defeating Somerset tonight at Edgbaston.

It will not be easy. With big-hitting batsmen such as Ian Blackwell, Graeme Smith and James Hildreth, Somerset are a dangerous side and are fighting for automatic qualification to the quarter-finals.

Warwickshire batsman Mark Wagh's troublesome knee injury may now require surgery and could well keep him out of cricket for most of the remainder of the season, while Michael Powell is also thought to require over a month's rest to recover from shin splints.

Neither player is likely to be available when the County Championship resumes and, with Ian Bell expected to be on England duty against Australia, Warwickshire's batting resources will be stretched to breaking point.

Wicketkeeper Tony Frost is nearing a return, however. His bruised hands are improving slowly and he should be back in first-team action soon.

Although his deputy, Stuart Eustace, has delivered improved performances after a nervous start to his professional career, it has been noticeable that he has very rarely stood-up to the stumps to any of Warwickshire's medium-pacers.

Elsewhere in the ICC Trophy, Denmark's wicketkeeper Fred Klokker, who last week represented Warwickshire's Second XI, made an unbeaten 138 to help his country defeat the United States.

The 22-year-old, who opens the batting for Denmark, is expected to return to Edgbaston in the next few days to continue his trial.
