Thousands of motorists were caught up in traffic queues today after a bus broke down on a slip road onto the M5 at West Bromwich.

The southbound slip road off the motorway, at junction one, was shut as the disruption caused traffic to back up over the island and onto the M5.

It happened at around 9am, but the slip road off the motorway was reopened after an hour.

“For the safety of road users the Highways Agency closed the M5 southbound exit slip at junction one for an hour due to traffic queuing from island onto the main carriageway,” said a Highways Agency spokesman.
