Every home should be connected to broadband internet services by 2020, Midland politicians have said.

Michael Fabricant MP, the shadow Industry and Technology Minister and MEP Malcolm Harbour, the European Technology spokesman, called for a "light touch" regulation regime to help the internet industry expand.

Wireless technology could be used to ensure services were available even in remote communities which are not currently served by BT broadband lines, they said.

The pair are leading the Conservative Technology Forum, which issued a series of recommendations.

Britain ranks in the middle among developed countries in exploiting digital technology.
