Police are investigating after a brawl broke out between cinemagoers during a screening of The Omen in the West Midlands, it emerged.

Violence flared at Cineworld, on the Bentley Bridge Leisure Park in Wednesfield, on 6/6/6 - the symbolic date made famous in the original horror film.

A disagreement broke out between some of the people watching the remake of the '70s cult movie in Screen Six and a number of people were assaulted, West Midlands Police said.

A force spokeswoman could not confirm local reports that some of those involved in the "large fight" were "Goths".

Two casualties were taken to hospital with minor injuries and later discharged. No-one was arrested.

The 666 phenomenon is based on a disputed passage from the Bible's Book of Revelation, which several popular versions declare to be the "number of the beast".
