Leisure chiefs in Birmingham have confirmed that the traditional bonfire at Pype Hayes Park is to be reinstated as they released details of this year's Guy Fawkes Night celebrations.

Fireworks events will take place in the north and south of the city in November and the traditional bonfire will be back among them.

Council chiefs axed the Pype Hayes Park bonfire last year as they were concerned that it could pollute the local area.

They had planned to stage a firework only event this year at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, but a public outcry saw the bonfire included in plans for the 400th anniversary of the Gun Powder Plot.

This year a massive firework extravaganza will take place on November 5 at the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, the day after the traditional bonfire, fireworks and funfair event at Pype Hayes.

Chart topping pop stars will be making an appearance at both shows.

Advance tickets will be available from October at £1 for children and £2 for adults. Tickets on the gate will be £2 and £3.
