A major security alert was sparked today in Birmingham after a man was found in a car with his hands apparently bound and “canisters” wrapped aound his body.
Police were called shortly after 10.20am after a lorry driver noticed the man lying across the front seat of the small car at the junction of Landor Street and Clarel Avenue, Saltley.
Army bomb disposal experts were called to the scene and a 500 metre exclusion zone was set up in the area.
Chief Supt Tom Coughlan said it was not clear whether the man was there of “his own volition” or was the victim of crime.
Trains running along a railway line past the scene were suspended and aircraft were also prevented from flying over the scene.
