Birmingham City may yet enter the transfer market again before tonight's deadline after confirming that they were still bidding to strengthen their left side.
Brazil's former World Cup winner Denilson is one name that has been mentioned in despatches.
But the only potential transfer target that Blues have confirmed is Rangers left-back Michael Ball.
Blues manager Steve Bruce said: "We've shown an interest in Michael but he's among two or three we're looking at."
Ball was Rangers' last big signing when he went to Ibrox from Everton as a 21-year-old for £6.5 million in the summer of 2001.
His time at Ibrox has been badly affected by injury but he is at least match-fit, having started four of Rangers' seven matches this season.
With only a year left on his contract, he is available on the cheap, Fulham having been quoted only £250,000 earlier this season for the once-capped former England international.
