Birmingham can look forward to a summer of celebrating film-making after the UK's largest black film festival was launched in the city.
Black World opened on with simultaneous preview screenings of Mario Van Peebles's Baadasssss! in London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester.
Black World runs until November and is designed to show work from an African background.
The Black World crosscultural programme has more than 50 events, including film screenings, cinema tours, DVD releases, educational events and film and TV seasons. Key programme highlights include cinema releases of Fanta Nacro's The Night of Truth and a tribute to the father of African cinema Ousmane Sembene, and a special screening of Ken Burns' documentary Unforgiveable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson.
Fans will have the opportunity to see rare classics and new films and participate in debates with film-makers and masterclasses.
