A Black Country man caught with £25,000-worth of cannabis growing in his home has been ordered to prove the stash was for his personal use.
Karl Priest, 27, told Wolverhampton Crown Court that he had been an extremely heavy cannabis smoker since the age of 13 and that he would have used the crop within three months.
But Recorder Barry Berlin told Priest, of Railway Lane, Oldbury, that he felt it was far too much cannabis for one man and ruled there should be a special hearing to determine whether Priest’s statement was true.
Priest admitted producing the controlled drug and was remanded on bail until October l.
Prosecutor Alka Brigue said police discovered 119 cannabis plants when they forced their way into the house.
She said Priest told them he had started growing his own drugs because he was sick of being “ripped off” by dealers.
