A convicted drug dealer from the Black Country has been ordered to hand over almost £60,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Christopher Reid, 37, was handed a confiscation order at Wolverhampton Crown Court, forcing him to pay back £56,570.40 within six months.

If Reid fails to pay the money back within the specified time, he faces a further 19 months in prison and will still owe the money following the extended sentence.

Christopher Reid was sentenced to 13 years in prison in December 2008 for conspiracy to supply class A drugs, following a major drugs operation on the Mayfields estate in Wednesfield, near Wolverhampton.

The court determined Reid received more than £820,000 from his criminal activities.

Luxury cars were seized and nine properties belonging to Reid were restrained during the investigation.

Police, together with the courts have the power to revisit the confiscation order at a later stage, should Reid acquire more assets or money in the future.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Payne from Force CID, said: "This was an individual who set out through his drug dealing activities to make money out of other people's misery.

"Hardworking people from the local area helped us to understand his activities. They will no doubt be as pleased as I am, that he has been forced by the courts to pay it back."
