Three bishops in the West Midlands have agreed to live on the minimum wage for the duration of Lent, which started yesterday.

The bishops of Shrewsbury, Stafford and Wolverhampton will earn £5.05 an hour for the next 40 days and donate the difference in their incomes to the Bishop of Lichfield's Lent Appeal.

The Rt Rev Jonathan Gledhill launched his In the Margins campaign to raise funds for four overseas projects and three West Midlands schemes helping young people, and urged Christians across the diocese to back the appeal.

In a statement, the Rt Rev Dr Alan Smith, Bishop of Shrewsbury, the Rt Rev Dr Gordon Mursell, Bishop of Stafford, and the Rt Rev Michael Bourke, Bishop of Wolverhampton, encouraged everyong to respond to the appeal.
