Cancer sufferer Danielle Hefti celebrated her sixth birthday in style at Birmingham Children's Hospital with a special award.

Danielle, of Warndon, Worcester, was diagnosed with Wilm's tumour, a form of kidney cancer which affects children, last April.

Staff at the hospital laid on a party for the brave girl, whose latest round of chemotherapy coincided with her birthday.

Danielle was also being presented with a Little Star award from Cancer Research UK, after she was nominated by a friend,

Kate Townsend. She said: "Despite everything, she is cheerful, sunny, and a happy little girl who brings great delight to her family and all who know her."

Danielle's mother, Louise Hefti, aged 27, added: "I am proud of her. She has been so brave through it

all. "It's a devastating thing to happen to any family, but she's full of life and doesn't let it bother her.

"She had surgery in June to remove the tumour, and lost her right kidney. Recently she had a scan and everything is going as it should."
