Mr Egg, Birmingham’s iconic greasy spoon cafe, has closed for good.

Instead the premises, in Hurst Street now has a new owner and a new name.

Mr Egg lost its late licence after an incident in which 13 people were hurt last November.

But Birmingham, City Council’s licensing committee reinstated the licence after hearing the fast food premises would now be called Chicken Cottage and owned and run by Ziaur Rahman Khan.

Earlier this year the cafe, still trading as Mr Egg, was ordered by magistrates to close at 11pm after the licensing committee carried out a review of its licence.

But PC Abdul Rohomon, from Steelhouse Lane police, told councillors he was happy to see the cafe given back its late licence.

“But I have had confirmation that the old tenancy has been revoked and Mr Khan owns it outright,” he said.

Chicken Cottage can now open from 8am to 5am seven days a week.
