Two night workers were rescued from a burning meat factory in Birmingham after fire swept through the premises.

The men were led away from Raphael Meat and Poultry in Wright Street, Small Heath, by firefighters from Highgate and Hay Mills before paramedics treated them at the scene. They did not require hospital treatment.

Five per cent of the single-storey building’s interior was destroyed and fires were also discovered outside.

Fire investigation teams have scoured the site for clues but it is still not known how the blaze started, shortly after 12.45am on New Year's Eve.
