A woman was today due to appear in court charged with the murder of another woman in Birmingham found dead in the bath.

Officers found the body of the 49-year-old after residents raised the alarm when they hadn’t seen her for a few days.

They forced their way into the property in Lenchs Green, Edgbaston, shortly after 6pm on Wednesday.

The death was initially treated as unexplained.

But following the results of a post-mortem examination a murder inquiry was launched.

A 29-year-old woman from Handsworth was arrested as part of the investigation and later charged with murder.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said the woman was due before magistrates in Birmingham this morning.

The victim has not yet been formally identified. The results of the post-mortem have not yet been revealed by police.
