A governor at a Birmingham school has admitted carrying out a £23,000 scam.

James Windle, a governor at St Lawrence Junior School in Bunbury Road, Northfield, appeared at the city’s Crown Court and pleaded guilty to nine charges of fraud.

The charges cover a period between May last year and January this year and involve making a false representation to an employee at Lloyds Bank concerning cheques.

Sentence on Windle, 54, of West Heath Road, West Heath was adjourned until August 7.

Kevin Grego, representing Windle, said he wanted to pay compensation and was expecting to receive a redundancy payout of £20,000 in the near future.

Mr Recorder Qureshi said that Windle had committed a breach of trust although if funds were paid back it would be a “substantial mitigation”.
