A bereaved father whose son was run over and killed during August's rioting in Birmingham has been committed to the city's Crown Court following an alleged road rage incident.

Tariq Jahan, who is accused of unlawfully wounding Sajjad Ali, briefly appeared before city magistrates on Monday.

Jahan, 45, of Winson Street, Winson Green, was committed to appear again at the crown court on January 13 and was allowed unconditional bail.

The charge relates to an incident on July 6 this year in Factory Road, Handsworth.

In August, Jahan's 21-year-old son Haroon and two other young people, brothers Shazad Ali and Abdul Musavir, died after being hit by a car in Winson Green.

Jahan was widely credited for helping to stave off further violence in the city when he appealed for calm following the death of his son.
