The artistic director of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company is to step down.
Rachel Kavanaugh, who has been the creative leader of the theatre since 2006, announced she was leaving the theatre to spend more time with her family and to work on a freelance basis.
Her decision comes as the Rep closes as part of a multi-million pound redevelopment as part of the new Library of Birmingham.
“As the Rep is soon to enter an exciting phase of development, it feels like the right moment to hand over to a new Artistic Director who can build on our current successes,” Ms Kavanaugh said.
“I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing artists and hugely dedicated staff. It’s a thrillingly diverse and creative company in which to work.”
The Rep will continue to put on productions at a number of different venues across the West Midlands for the next two years while its new home is being built.
