A convicted Birmingham killer who was jailed ten years ago for stabbing a man to death is being quizzed over the suspected murder of his ex-wife.

David Glasgow (39) was found by police in the same house as the body of his former partner, Donna Glasgow, also 39, in St Luke’s Road, Highgate, after 10pm on Tuesday evening.

The Ministry of Justice was unable to confirm whether Glasgow was out of prison on licence or if he had absconded from jail. A spokeswoman for West Midland Police said: “Police were called to a house in St. Luke’s Road, Highgate, at 10.07pm on Tuesday evening where the body of a 39-year-old woman was found.

“The woman was declared dead at the scene by paramedics and the death is being treated as unexplained. A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene for recall to prison.

“The results of the post-mortem were inconclusive and the death is still unexplained. A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.”

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “At about half ten on Tuesday night I heard my name being shouted so I went outside. There were two men, one I’d seen around here about five times before – I think he was a male relative of Donna’s – and another man who I didn’t know.

“They asked me if I knew where Donna was and I said that I hadn’t seen her for a while but told them to go round the back and see if the light was on.

“I didn’t hear anything until about an hour and a half later when the police turned up and took both men away. To be honest, I didn’t have a clue what was going on but I had a feeling it was bad.

“I was then told that Donna was dead. This morning I spoke to one of her daughters and she told me that the man I didn’t know was the ex-husband or ex-partner of Donna who had recently been in prison.

“They had apparently found her lying on the floor in the hallway and had called the emergency services.

“The ex was returned to prison. I have no idea how they managed to get into the house but it’s a terraced property and I didn’t hear anything untoward.

“Donna had a son and two daughters who had moved out of the house but were living in the area still. It’s a very sad end to her life.”

David Glasgow, then aged 29, was jailed for life at Birmingham Crown Court in December 1998 for killing a man who was found dying in the back garden of his own home.

He admitted the murder of 45-year-old Nicholas Dayman. The victim was discovered by his girlfriend in the garden behind their ground floor flat in Alum Rock, Birmingham in May 1998.
Mr Dayman, who had been stabbed and slashed across the face and chest, was taken to Heartlands Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of the morning.
