The International Convention Centre in Birmingham has won two major international conferences that it claims could generate more than £2million for the region and bring 2,000 people to the city.
Organisers have estimated that a conference on treatment for patients with severe chronic kidney disease – the European Peritoneal Dialysis (EuroPD) Meeting – will bring 1,200 delegates from around the world to Birmingham in October 2011.
And education body CASE Europe’s event is expected to attract a further 800 in August the following year.
ICC director of international sales Catherine Newhall-Caiger said: “We are a venue with an extensive history of hosting events of the highest calibre, both from the UK and overseas and in the face of stiff competition, these two conference wins clearly demonstrate our reputation for being able to successfully host a diverse range of international events.
“I know that I speak for the entire team here when I say that we are truly looking forward to welcoming these events in the upcoming years.”
Margaret Sherry, managing director of In Conference, the organiser of the EuroPD meetings, said: “We have held successful events at The ICC over the years for other clients and we knew that it would be ideal for the EuroPD meeting.
“One of its main attractions for us is the accessibility both from across the UK and internationally and we are now looking forward to what I’m sure will be a hugely successful event.”
The EuroPD meeting rotates between major European cities every two years and the Birmingham meeting will be the 10th in the series.
