Birmingham were last night close to bolstering their ranks further with the acquisition of winger Robin Shroot from Isthmian League Premier Division side Harrow Borough.

Shroot, a Northern Ireland Under-21 international, has impressed Alex McLeish during a recent trial and now looks likely to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with a year’s option.

Birmingham will be forced to pay a nominal fee to AFC Wimbledon for Shroot’s services as the Dons hold the 20-year-old’s registration.

However Birmingham have lost the services of on-loan right-back Nicky Hunt who was yesterday recalled by his parent club Bolton Wanderers, who are suffering with injuries and suspensions
