Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has admitted that the deal for Rangers striker Kris Boyd looks to be dead.

McLeish insisted that Blues had made Boyd a reasonable offer but it didn't match the prolific goal-getter's wage demands.

Blues are believed to have agreed a fee of around £3.8 million for the 25-year-old but talks stalled yesterday.

It has been speculated that Boyd was offered a wage packet in the region of £17,000 a week but that figure doesn't appear to be good enough for the Scottish Premier League's top scorer.

And McLeish admitted defeat in the pursuit of his compatriot.

"We had some talks with Kris and his advisors yesterday and we were miles apart," said the Blues boss.

"As a result of that talks were concluded because there wasn't any agreement in place. We felt we had made a fair offer and they are entitled to ask for what they want. We respect that but we feel we made a good offer but that's it dead as far as I'm concerned.

"I've got to move on and look at other things, it remains to be seen as to whether it could be resurrected, at the moment it's unlikely."

While the chances of nabbing Boyd have all but disappeared, McLeish is hopeful of signing Fulham left winger Hameur Bouazza within the next 24 hours.

Bouazza has been on-loan at Charlton Athletic this season but Blues have discovered a clause in the Algerian's contract with Fulham and McLeish is now confident of having the 23-year-old on board for the trip to Blackpool on Saturday.
