An England football fan has been given a temporary reprieve from extradition to Portugal to serve a jail term.

The European Court of Human Rights said there was no immediate prospect of Birmingham City fan Garry Mann being extradited to Portugal and referred the decision back to the UK courts, where the case will be heard before the end of March.

A statement released by the court's section registrar in a letter to his UK solicitors said: "There is no current risk that your client will be extradited from the United Kingdom."

Mr Mann, originally from Birmingham, but who now lives in Faversham, Kent, was given a two-year prison sentence for his alleged role in football-related violence in the Algarve resort of Albufeira during Euro 2004.
