Style gurus turned on the glamour at a glitzy ceremony in recognition of all that is stylish in Birmingham.

The second Style Awards were hosted at the Town Hall by last year’s Most Stylish Personality award-winner pop star Jamelia and MOBO-nominated musician Bryn Christopher.

More than 30,000 votes were cast on-line to decide who made the cut in the 15 awards up for grabs from Most Stylish Place to Eat to the Most Stylish Independent Retailer.

Fashionistas decided Sutton Coldfield TV presenter Cat Deeley should walk away with Birmingham’s Most Stylish Personality prize.

Aston Villa midfielder and England player Gareth Barry won the title of Most Stylish Sports Personality.

More than 300 VIP guests attended the red carpet evening to see Harvey Nichols pick up two accolades – Most Stylish Designer Retailer and Most Stylish Accessories - while Mailbox won Most Stylish Shopping Destination and Clements & Church was named Most Stylish Independent.

Cielo and Mechu were named Most Stylish Place to Eat and Drink, and Selfridges received the accolade for Most Stylish Department Store.

Organisers Retail Birmingham described the awards as a “resounding success”.

Nigel Godfrey said: “The run-up to the awards was nail-biting because votes continued to flood in right up until voting closed last week and the leaders of each category were changing almost daily. There was no guessing who was going to pick up the honours on the night, so there was a real feeling of excitement as each category winner was announced.”

Birmingham’s Most Stylish Male and Female were also selected from 500 people picked by a team of scouts from Retail Birmingham.

The winners were Kieran Tronson, aged 18, from Kings Norton, and Melissa Scott, aged 25, from Balsall Heath.

“These awards have certainly staked their claim to being one of the most important events on the Birmingham fashion calendar,” added Nigel.

“It really was a night to remember.”
