Birmingham church-goers have been given the opportunity to keep in touch with God through their iPhone.

Birmingham Cathedral has embraced the ever-evolving world of technology by launching its own app, with the hope of reaching a worldwide audience.

The app is free to download and features a calendar of Cathedral services and events. And users who can’t make it to the Cathedral in person can get access to podcasts of sermons and choral music across the globe.

It is the first time a Cathedral in Britain has launched a free app and the Dean, the Very Revd Catherine Ogle, is hoping it will reach people around the world.

She said: “We’re hoping to go global with this app. It would be brilliant to connect with people in other countries.

“The idea only came to us around a month ago, so it’s all happened very quickly.”

The app has been designed by local businessman Scott James Remnant, but the Very Revd Ogle was heavily involved in deciding what content was made available to users.
