A Birmingham-based Islamic charity has launched an appeal to raise £2 million to help victims of the Gaza bombings.

Islamic Relief Worldwide, one of the largest aid agencies working on the ground, urgently wants money for medication and medical equipment to stock Gaza’s main Al Shifa Hospital. The Digbeth-based agency is also spending £169,000 sourcing life-saving medical aid in the next 48 hours. An emergency assessment team travelling across Gaza say families are also in need of shelter after homes were destroyed.

Islamic Relief chief executive Saleh Saeed said: “Aid agencies like Islamic Relief are on the ground providing life-saving aid but we need full and immediate humanitarian access to Gaza to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.”
