A micro-sculpture artist from Birmingham has revealed his own miniature tribute to Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Willard Wigan has sculpted a model of the royal couple which fits into the eye of a needle.

The model shows William and Miss Middleton standing arm in arm, in a pose they struck at Buckingham Palace on the day they announced their engagement.

The bride-to-be wears her blue Issa dress and leans towards her fiancé, who stands conservatively in a black suit and tie.

Wigan fashioned the piece, which can only be viewed through a microscope, from synthetic fibre and painted it using a single eyelash.

"A royal wedding does not come around that often and I wanted to make the smallest, biggest tribute for them," he said.

Wigan's celebrity fans include Sir Elton John, Simon Cowell and Sir Philip Green.

In 2009 he attracted media attention for his microscopic sculpture of the new US president's family on the day of Barack Obama's inauguration.

The sculpture of the royal couple is being exhibited at Castle Fine Art at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham.
