A Birmingham woman’s car, which was her "pride and joy", was crushed by a falling tree as gale force winds lashed the city on Monday.

Eroney Pinnoct, who lives in Gillott Road, Edgbaston, said it was "a blessing" that nobody was in the car at noon, when a large tree toppled onto her Audi A3 Sport, parked outside her flat.

The 30-year-old PA, who had been enjoying a bank holiday lie-in, added she was in no doubt that she could have been killed if had been in the driver’s seat.

Ms Pinnoct said: "The first I knew was my neighbour repeatedly ringing my door bell, that’s when I realised something was wrong, I got up and rushed to the window, and saw a massive tree on top of my car.

"But it wasn’t until I went outside that I saw the real extent of the damage. It was heartbreaking, that car was my pride and joy, but it’s a complete write-off now. But it’s a blessing nobody was in the car or that anyone else was parked next to it.

"Luckily a couple of builders working next door saw the tree came down and they rushed round to check I was okay, then called the police."
