Fire fighters fought sneezing fits as well as flames yesterday when this lorry containing white pepper caught fire.

Motorists faced traffic chaos at morning rush hour when the articulated lorry loaded with food caught fire on the M5, causing 15-mile tailbacks.

But firefighters working to put out the blaze were hampered by runny noses because the trailer, which caught fire on the northbound section of the motorway near Junction 3 at Halesowen at 6.30am, contained white pepper.

Highways Agency officials closed the slip road to the junction and the nearside lane as a huge fire-fighting operation got under way. No-one was injured but the lorry and all the goods on the trailer were destroyed.
