ARMED robbers threatened staff at gunpoint during a hold-up in a packed post office in Sutton Coldfield yesterday.
The two thugs brandishing a shotgun and baseball bats burst into the Four Oaks Post Office, Lichfield Road, at 3pm.
One of the robbers slammed the baseball bat on the counter and ordered staff to hand over cash.
But they were forced to flee empty-handed when staff refused.
Police said there were a number of customers inside the branch at the time of the robbery.
They made off in a suspected stolen white coloured Ford Escort. This was later found burnt out in a residential area just off Mere Green Road in Sutton Coldfield.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle being dumped or the car driving erratically in the area shortly after the incident.
Det Con Brett Stephenson, from Sutton Coldfield robbery team, said: “This was a serious incident with offenders who were armed with very dangerous weapons.
“There were a number of customers and shop assistants in the Post Office at the time who were very shaken following the ordeal. We would urge anyone who may have seen the car or has any information to call the robbery team at Sutton Coldfield.”
The offenders are both described as white males, around 6ft tall, wearing dark clothing, with their faces covered.
